John Stewart in this video was very
witty but also side tracked. His commentary and responses to the other two men
would make their very serious questions seem lighthearted. Their laughter in
response to his humorous comments added to the conversation in making it seem
like less of an argument. The man in the bow tie put up with John Stewart’s
insults in the beginning because they made him laugh but towards the end he got
very defensive. I could tell that the conversation was slowly getting more
heated and aggressive each time John made a casual comment that degraded the
men and their show.
Throughout the conversation John
used confront a lot. I feel he was trying to reiterate that he was not
attacking them but merely being a respectful but honest person who disagreed
with their opinions. This word came made the conversation sound less hostile
and it was good that he repeated a few too many times. In an attempt to make a
point about what the men were doing wrong on their show, John claimed that they
were “hacking” the political parties and using “hackery” on their show. These
word choices are what made the discussion more of an argument at some points
because the other men did not like what he was accusing them of. This entire
discussion ended up being a terrible mixture of humor and anger.
