Be Ok - Ingrid Michaelson

The first stanza of the song is very repetitive which gives it much more of an impact. She is saying that she wants to feel better and just simply get through her day. She wants it to be easier than what she has been dealing with in the days before. In the next stanza she is again repetitive with her words. She wants to feel happiness or joy or any positive emotion other than what she has been feeling. Third stanza is where she gets deeper. She doesn't express it or show it to outsiders, but she has been hurt a lot and on the inside is broken. She wants others to stop trying to fix her because she knows she is just going to have to live with it. So far this sounds like every guy she has been with breaks her heart and she is starting to live in constant sadness. She is asking anyone who will listen, probably God, if she can just feel better for one day, and forget about everything. In the fourth stanza i think she is trying to get across that she wants and needs a sure thing in her life. She has lost trust and hope in finding love. She doesn't want a for sure man she just wants to be assured that for one day, she can be happy. Come 5th stanza she ultimately just wants to embrace what she is because she doesn't trust anyone with her fragile heart. She wants it in the comfort of her own arms (metaphorically speaking). Come the last stanza is repeats "Know that maybe I will be ok" which sounds a lot more positive than the rest of the song, showing that she is somewhat hopeful that maybe she actually will be ok.

Music Video Essay Intro

1) Be Ok
2) Ingrid Michaelson/ http://av.vimeo.com/59744/134/30187307.mp4?token=1379317348_544991aa967c1ab5944fd5063fdc5a83

4) I am hoping to dig deeper into Ingrid's music video because it is a very sad beginning then a somewhat positive but also weird end. So, I want to analyze it more so I can further compare it to the coke zero commercial, where the song was performed by an unknown artist.

Gatsby Soundtrack

The music makes the mood of the movie appear to be happier and more fun. It makes what could have been a very depressing movie a lively romance. The mood is creepy in some ways with the songs “Back to Black” and “Young and Beautiful” which gives it a cool kind of eerie vibe. The movie adds a new spin to the music by creating a mix of jazz and rap, which attracts a lot more young viewers. This sparks an interest in the 20’s era by the 90’s era kids making them interesting in all that happened back then. This music adds life to the movie and makes viewers want to go to one of Gatsby’s parties because they look so fun! The music was a great choice because then this movie wasn’t a complete copycat of the original. This movie now has its own personality and vibe, which now cannot be mimicked. The mood of the movie is fun at some points and very intense and serious at others. They did a very good job at putting appropriate songs with the right scenes so the audience would be in the right moods during each scene, therefore creating the appropriate reactions. They played “Young and Beautiful” during very somber moments where Daisy was feeling heartbroken, therefore appealing to women with lovers who make them feel the same way. “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody” was played during the big extravagant party scene and when presenting Gatsby, making him look powerful and full of life. The songs in the Great Gatsby were awesome in completely the feel of the film and are now all very popular songs, bringing a little bit of jazz into our generations lives.

Unit 1 Essay Review

For our Unit 1 essay, I really appreciated the mandatory drafts. This week was so much less stressful when we only had pages due at a time. I was able to relax and thing about what I was going to say for that page, rather than cram all of my ideas into 3 pages all at once. I love having so much time and opportunities to edit my writing and have other people take a look at it too. So far, my essay is mediocre. It has great structure and direction but it really needs a lot of touch ups. I forgot a lot of very important features and also made a handful of mistakes that deemed inappropriate to some audiences. It really helped having my teacher and peers tell me what sounded wrong and right because I may have never noticed. If the mandatory drafts had not been set in stone, I would not have started my essay until last night. I used to only give myself 2-3 days to write an essay, which was not smart at all. The group workshops are a very helpful idea. Considering no one knows each other well because our school is so large, no one feels comfortable asking our classmates for help editing their paper. Forcing us to do this not only helps our papers get better but it makes the class fell more tight-knit and comfortable amongst each other. Now I also have made a few friends because of this. It will definitely be more difficult to time manage when we move on to harder and longer essays, but I know that if we continue the group workshops I should have no problem getting my work done and doing it well. Group workshops and mandatory drafts saved my English grade and my sleep cycle.
